New bus station moves a step forward

Plans have finally been passed for the new £2.5 million bus station for Stourbridge, despite comments by councillors because passengers will have to spend more than a penny to spend a penny.

Three toilets have been included in the latest plans after the original designs submitted in November 2007 were refused after councillors stated that toilets were needed. CENTRO have been branded "mean" due to the charge to use the the toilets, which will cost 20p, which is also charged by CENTRO at Wolverhampton and Wednesbury.

The passed plans also includes 11 upgraded bus stands, electronic information boards, a sheltered waiting area and extra CCTV cameras. A passenger information services unit will incorporate a retail section with three toilets. The existing toilet block at the bus station in Stourbridge will be converted into a rest facility for drivers.

Although these plans have now been passed, there has been no definite timetable of works established for the site, which due to the original consultation may start in late 2008 or early 2009.
