To coincide with changes to National Rail and Centro fares, Travel West Midlands have announced a fare simplification, which will take place from Sunday 4 January 2004. Travel West Midlands have noted that this fare simplification will replace normal fares revision in March. The changes are as follows:
Travel Cards
Travel cards prices will be revised as follows:
ALL 4-week card prices are frozen.
ALL other cards will increase by a maximum of 50p a week (for 1 week cards) or 1 a month (for direct debits or annual cards), while Off-Peak cards will have an increase of 20p a week.
DaySaver Tickets
ALL prices are frozen for the Evening Saver, Daysaver 5 and Family Daysaver tickets.
The regional Daysaver ticket will increase in price, the first price increase since 1999, from £2.50 to £2.70.
The Child Daysaver will cost £1.80.
Single Cash Fares
Due to a major restructuring, Travel West Midlands will change the 5 Peak fares and reduce it to just 3 Peak fares. The 4 Off-Peak fares will be reduced to just 2.
PEAK FARES - The 3 Peak Fares will now be 70p, £1 and £1.30. This means that the current 70p, £1 and £1.30 fare has been frozen, but the current 40p and 85p fares will be abolished.
OFF PEAK FARES - The 2 Off-Peak fares will now be 70p and £1. Again, the current 70p and £1 fares have again been frozen, but the 40p (short fare hop) and 85p fare will be abolished.
Please note that the 40p fare has not been increased since 2001, and the 85p fare has not been increased since 2002.
A maximum £1.30 Peak and £1 Off-Peak fare will still apply on ALL Travel West Midlands services within the West Midlands County.
No other operators have, as yet, announced any fare increase.
