Councillor feels that Stourbridge needs night bus network

Police have revealed that revellers are stealing cars to get themselves home after nights out in Stourbridge. Councillor David Sheppard, who represents the Norton area of Stourbridge, is hoping that a night bus could be started to prevent this crime from happening. He said "With the increase of Stourbridge as an entertainment value, we have got a problem with transport away from the area. I am aware that some of these cars (being stolen) are quite aged and people are just picking on them as cheap transport to get away from Stourbridge and back home. We need to be considering the need for late-night public transport out of Stourbridge."

Stourbridge has numerous public houses in the town centre, with The Toad at the Glassworks staying open until after 12.00 midnight, and The Picture House, in Hagley Road, staying open until 2.00 am.

Stourbridge Police Inspector Nigel Perkins said that some vehicle thefts were down to club and pub-goers that needed transport. Centro area manager Malcolm Farrow said that Centro are looking at ways to try and improve the site for public transport users. He said "The only way I could see late-night public transport in Stourbridge is in the same situation as Walsall and Wolverhampton. There the clubs contribute towards the buses taking people away from the town centre at 2.00 am and 3.00 am and that is the only way it can be done in this area."
