Inconsiderate motorists along a busy road are forcing bus drivers to carry out dangerous manoeuvres to enter the bus station in Stourbridge. There have been complaints, that when entering Foster Street from Birmingham Street, buses are being forced to swerve and sometimes mount the pavement. Drivers are parking along Birmingham Street just before the road changes into a dual carriageway. There are no parking bays situated on this part of the road, and are blocking the path for buses and lorries.
Highway bosses at Dudley Council are looking for ways to stop parking along this stretch of Birmingham Street. The council head of traffic and road safety, Graham Isherwood, said officers are hoping to have a solution to this problem early next year. He said "There have been problems reported due to cars being parked along Birmingham Street before the point it becomes a dual carriageway. This situation makes it very difficult for larger vehicles, such as buses, to get by, especially when they are turning to get into the bus station." Mr Isherwood also said "There have been incidents where buses have struggled to get past and have been forced to mount the kerb. We (Dudley Council) have been made aware of these problems and are looking to see if it would be feasible to place waiting restrictions or double yellow lines along the road."
